Assembly Member McLaughlin Announces He Will Not Seek Re-Election The Queens Tribune reprts on 1/12/06 that 7 Term Queens Assembly Member Brian McLaughlin (D-25th District) will not seek reelection once his term expires in 2006. McLaughlin will refocus his efforts as President of the New York City Central Labor Council. Stay tuned to see who will seek this seat. There are unconfirmed rumors that very big nam epeople might seek this seat. 2.Green Bus Lines Acquired By The MTA On Monday 1/9/06 the MTA officially acquired and started operating the Green Bus lines. The Green Bus Lines were one of Queens longest running private operating bus lines. The Green Lines serviced JFK Airport, Rockaways, Ozone Park, and Kew Gardens. 3.Council Member Quinn Elected NYC Council Speaker 2006 began with the NYC Council electing Council Member Christine Quinn as the 3rd Speaker in the Council's history replacing term limited Speaker Gifford Miller. QCYD Congratulates and wishes Speaker Quinn the best of luck. 4. Congress Member Gary L. Ackerman Travels To Israel Congress Member Gary L. Ackerman (D) who is the ranking Democrat on the U.S. House Foreign Relations Committee visited Israel this week. Congress Member Ackerman met with Acting Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in Jerusalem. Congress Member Ackerman was visitng Israel to attend the International Council of Jeiwsh Parliamentarians Conference. We want to Congratulate Congress Member Ackerman on being unanimously being elected to serve as its President. 5. Council Member Eric Gioia's 2006 Kick Off Party On Thursday January 5th, 2006 QCYD President Silverstein attended Council Member Gioia's 2006 Kick Off the New Year Party. Over 600 people were in attendance at a hotel lounge in Mid Town Manhhattan including Former NYC public Advocate Greeen, NYC Council Speaker Quinn, Council Member Weprin, Assembly Member Nolan, and Gioia's college roommate Morgan Spurlock (Academy Award Nominee For His Film Super Size Me) It was quite a party. Congratulation is in order to Council Member Gioia's on his announcement that his wife is three months pregnant with their first child. 6. Helen Marshall Takes 2nd Oath of Office as Queens BP This week at Terrace on the Park Queens BP Helen Marshall took her 2nd Oath of Office as Borough President of Queens for four more years. Congratulations BP Marshall keep up the good work. 7. Queens Elected Officials Introduce English on Signage Legislation W hear that Assembly Member McLaughlin and NYS Senator Padavan introduced legislation in Albany that would allow the NYPS and NYC Department of Consumer Affairs to issue summons if a sotr does nto have English on its stroe fron tsignage. Stay tuned to see what happens with this legislation. 8. Thomas White Jr. Sworn In QCYD Would like to Congratulate and wish Council Member White Jr. the best of luck with his new term as Council Member.
